Expectant hearts follow momentous event

Paul tells Timothy he wants ‘men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer’. MPower responded to that call with a powerful prayer event in February, as Mark Lyndon-Jones reports.

This day was commissioned a whole year beforehand with the MPower Prayer Task Force based at Ealing Christian Centre, an Elim church renowned for their 24/7 commitment to prayer. The presence of God and the atmosphere was electric from the word go. Prompted by the Holy Spirit, I brought the call to worship from Psalm 24: “Who may ascend the hill of the Lord and who may stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart...”

We humbly positioned ourselves before the Lord and confessed our sins to him and corporately asked the Lord to open the gates of our hearts for the king of glory to come in afresh.

A defining prophetic prayer had been sent to me ahead of the event by a fellow Elim pastor and this was shared with those in attendance. Here’s a summary:

“Father God, we pray that your Spirit be incredibly and strongly present at the MPower Prayer Call. We pray that you would move powerfully among the brothers on this day. We pray that you would hear all the prayers spoken on that occasion in heaven, both audible and heart prayers. We pray for a host of incredible testimonies to originate in this day and that we would hear many of them.

“We pray that a seed be sown among the men of the Elim Movement about the urgency, vitality and deep necessity of both private and corporate prayer; that it be planted this day and that it may grow like a mustard seed into the largest of plants – covering those under our influence and into the generations to come.

“We pray that men everywhere be galvanised into strong, definitive, wall-breaking prayers that extend God’s kingdom and diminish false idols and spiritual forces that try to exert themselves against the Lord.

“Draw us all together into a force of prayer beyond these walls that is compelling, uniting, powerful and effective in our personal lives, in our churches and across the nation. Release power from heaven in response, Father! Reward the vision and obedience in this momentous gathering of the brothers with far more than we can ask or imagine. Amen!”

It was awesome to see men passionately engaged in worship, ably led by Jonathan Miller and the team from Kensington Temple. When we came to pray a literal roar went up especially as we prayed for the healing from cancer of one of our brothers and other issues.

“This was an experience that’s simply impossible to put into words,” said Roy McEwen, while James Aladarin, of Prayer Storm, was also prompted to speak from Psalm 24:1-4, unpacking the themes of walking in the fullness of our authority in Christ and pursuing purity and intimacy in our spiritual walk with God.

Since that day and at the time of writing a testimony has been reported that a work colleague of one of the men present has emerged from a coma of five weeks. Praise God! We are expectant for more incredible testimonies as a result of our prayers in the days to come.

This momentous event was concluded with powerful prayer and petition around the communion table, with expectant hearts for our futures and that of the next generation of sons and fathers.
