Getting to know Nathan Jess

10 questions with Nathan Jess

Nathan is from Northern Ireland and is based at our Portadown Elim church. He recently released his latest album ‘Phoenix’ which is available now.

What music are you enjoying at the moment?

I just recently got round to watching the John Mark McMillan - Live At The Knight videos on YouTube and they sound amazing.

What song are you most enjoying leading at the moment?

I love when I stumble back on an old song that I probably played to death 10 years ago but now feels so fresh again having been on the back burner for a while. That song currently is Came To My Rescue. Such an honest and desperate cry of worship.

Favourite Bible passage?

Not so much a passage but my favourite verse currently is the simple call to the practical love and grace of the Gospel in 1 John 3:18. ‘Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.’ (NIV)

Favourite food?

Indian.

Favourite drink?

Sparkling water.

The most inspiring book you’ve read?

Probably something by C.S. Lewis. I love even how he displays the gospel in his fictional characters. (I know they’re meant to be kids books!).

What’s your favourite album ever?

Sams Town - The Killers.

What football team to do you support?

Liverpool.

Favourite guitar?

I have a couple of Avalons which are truly beautiful hand made Irish guitars. The first one I got over 10 years ago is probably my favourite though sentimentally, it’s seen a lot of venues!

Favourite film?

Too many, but today I’ll choose Good Will Hunting.
